There’s nothing complained about more than people hating their jobs. If you want to be a boss girl, you have to find your way past the hate in order to be fully satisfied with your career. Here are my top tips to learn to love your job even when you can’t stand going to work sometimes. Read on to learn some powerful tools to overcome the hate and be your most boss and bad-ass self at.
1. Create rituals throughout the day
Giving yourself little pick-me-ups throughout the day can help give you something to look forward to. If you find yourself really hating big chunks of your day, creating a habit such as going for a mid-day walk, or grabbing an afternoon treat can help relieve the stress of your day. Just getting excited about your morning commute can help boost your mood before work. So go ahead make your favorite smoothie in the morning, or listen to that riveting podcast you’ve been eyeing, or jam to that new album on the way to work in your car!
2. Connect with your coworkers
The people you surround yourself with end up influencing your mood. Try to get on good terms with these people. The more you open yourself up to them and develop a connection, the more you can enjoy your day. You can complain to each other, crack jokes throughout the day, and feel supported and listened to. Remember, misery loves company, so creating those friendships at work can go a long way in loving your job.
3. Take time and focus on gratitude
Sometimes we can get bogged down with all the things we dislike about our job and our life. It’s important when we find ourselves becoming very negative, to try and balance it out with some aspects of our life or job that we’re thankful for. Making a list each day of three things you’re grateful for that arises from your job will help you start appreciating your job more. Creating some time to dedicate to change your perspective and write these things out will give you a more satisfied outlook on your career and day-to-day.
4. Practice letting things go
It’s important to practice letting things go when life gets difficult. Especially if you work in a field where you have to deal with customers, we can get irritated very easily. The more we practice the art of letting go, to not hold grudges, the more satisfied we can be at our job and dealing with our mood. Brushing off things that are not important will allow you room for headspace for more positive and encouraging thoughts and feelings.
5. Find a passion outside of work
Lastly, if you find that none of these practices have been helping you. Maybe it’s time to focus your thoughts on something you are more passionate about than your job. Finding a hobby outside of your job can help you feel more satisfied in your life. Improving your mood with something outside of your career can help lift your spirits when you need to come in to work every morning. Remembering that really cool pottery class you took, or looking forward to your favorite yoga class after work can give you just enough encouragement you need to get through your day smiling and happy.
