Ibrahimovic could have joined the Chinese League for a £71m per-year deal - The Swedish striker signed for LA Galaxy from Manchester United last month - Ibrahimovic scored a 40-yard stunner on his debut in the MLS against LAFC.
Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic turned down a whopping £71m China deal to seal his £1m-a-year LA Galaxy move. The Manchester United forward last month made an instant impact in the MLS after scoring twice in their 4-3 win against LAFC, one of which was a stunning 40-yard strike.
Galaxy's technical director, Jovan Kirovski, revealed the huge amount of sums offered to Ibrahimovic from the Far East may could have tempted the ex-Barcelona striker away. According to Sports Illustrated, Ibrahimovic had a multi-year deal on the table from Chinese Super League clubs, that would have seen him earn around £71m in the process. However the 36-year-old chose to join the Los Angeles based side despite only being able to be paid around £2m over two years. And it has been because Galaxy have used their Designated Player spot meaning Ibrahimovic must be paid within the MLS wage cap.
Ibrahimovic announced himself to the MLS with a bang helping Galaxy back from 3-0 down against LAFC, including scoring a breath-taking 40-yard effort, and heading in the winner.
Kirovski added: "I’m still numb. Especially for us. "With LAFC coming, and being down 3-0, it’s like: What? It was an emotional roller coaster. This was special. "He shows up and walks the walk. It’s incredible.”
The Swede took a swipe at Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo saying that his long range goal was better than the Portuguese stunning over-head kick against Juventus in the Champions League.
